Nick Shepherd
BIO:
Nick started Judo aged 10 under the instruction of Vic Webber (4th Dan) at Ruislip Gardens Judo Club. After progressing to 1st Kyu at the age of 17 Nick went to train full time at the British Judo Associations Centre of Excellence, as part of the Team Bath High Performance Judo Squad, under the instruction of Roy Inman (8th Dan). Nick’s competitive career has been hampered by injury having dislocated both of his shoulders on separate occasions 6 years apart. This has prevented him from gaining his competitive 1st Dan (Black-Belt), although he has completed his Technical 1st Dan. Nick recently graduated from the University Of Bath where he studied an FdSc in Sports Performance, he has completed his UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Judo. Nick is currently studying the EJU Level 3 Advanced Judo Coach Award. He has used this experience to become a professional judo coach, employed as the West / South London Development Coach for British Judo. As part of the role he is responsible for Brunel University's student judo club. Nick is also one of only a very small number of people outside the Emergency Services to be trained in Automated Defibrillation; he is also a qualified First Aider. Nick also teaches Self-Defence to the families of Wandsworth, through Wandsworth Adult Education and Family Learning. Nick was awarded the London Borough of Hillingdon, Volunteer of the Year 2008, for his outstanding contribution to Hillingdon sport.
